I remember...
…of my astonishment in front of the toy section of the Monoprix in Cimiez one day in January 2025.
Out of nostalgia, curiosity and the desire to keep myself informed, I do not disdain to take a look at the “toy” sections of the big brands.
My first surprise was to read the names of several well-known manufacturers, and not the least: Matchbox, Norev, Hotwheels, Majorette… when you see these names you have the impression of reading a blog dedicated to miniatures from the late sixties.
But no, we are in January 2025, in the basement of the Monoprix in Cimiez.
My second surprise was, objects in hand, to note the quality of the latter, particularly in the treatment of the wheels. The wheels of the Burago at 1/43 amazed me. I noticed that the manufacturers could therefore offer well-treated wheels, while maintaining a good margin.
I then thought back to the arrival of the “fast” wheels that had so upset collectors at the end of the sixties, this Whizzwheels series from Corgi Toys that I am now interested in.
It corresponds to a time, that of a fashion among children for these miniatures going at lightning speed. It is a demand that Hot Wheels had managed to create.
Now, it seems that young buyers appreciate miniatures with correctly treated wheels.
Fashions come and go, miniatures remain. I also thought back that morning to certain managers of toy companies, car brands, and collectors who explain that “the little car” no longer interests children. The shelves provided and the quality offered pleased me, they indicate that the fascination remains.
It is the orange model, located at the top of the shelf that surprised me the most. I had not dreamed when I saw this little colored spot from afar, I had recognized the shapes of the object, and the color reminded me of another miniature. This model was nothing other than a reissue of the first Majorette of the “rail-road” series, the BRM V8. The brand was celebrating its sixtieth anniversary. For licensing reasons, it lost its BRM name. It is manufactured in Thailand and has not been reproduced from the original mold. I would almost dare to say so much the better.
Six colours were created for this reissue, but another colour would not have attracted me in the same way. I have owned the Porsche Formule 1 from Majorette for a very long time, released shortly after the BRM, in this same orange colour.
We are in the toy sector and anything goes
. I made the connection between this bright colour and the weekly programming grid that we concoct with my daughter. From the beginning of the adventure, I explained to her the need to make it “beautiful”, the importance of colour combinations and presentations that must catch the eye.
Presentation and ephemeral beauty because these models are intended to go to the four corners of the planet once sold. This week, we lined up three Norevs.

modèle en vente cette semaine :Norev – CD Peugeot Le Mans 161
Two racing cars, the Porsche Carrera 6 and the Peugeot CD, which flank a utility vehicle, a Land Rover tow truck.
We can smile at this association of miniatures with different functions. However, they go well together. The two racing cars must have been manufactured during a common period, they share a harmony of colors. The Land Rover too, which is finished in the same shade of blue.
Admit that the whole has presence.
The child of the time could even imagine that the Porsche and the CD were part of the same team. We can have fun looking for all the combinations that these two racing cars share. There are quite a few: yellow/black, orange/black, white/red… you will thus personalize your collection.
We can also take a model and decline it in all possible colors.
This week we started the work, with three Rolls Royce colors.

It’s up to you to find the others. To come back and finish with the little “BRM” of Majorette of the Monoprix of Cimiez, I hesitated but I bought it. I saw it as a wink, a link between my past and the future of my collection
infinies variantes
In the collections we buy, we sometimes have a model available in several color variations.
You have to dare to put them on sale at the same time. It is up to the professional to do educational work and explain the variations of the product.
The practice of declining the colors of the same model is a form of collection that appeared in the mid-seventies. The pioneers of the collection, those who had started in the sixties, did not always understand the interest of the approach.
It developed to the extreme, up to Mr. Gougeon and his variants of Dinky Toys France, almost without limit, all recorded in six books.
One can imagine the work required for this inventory.
This week, we lined up three Commer tow truck side by side.
Personally, I have always liked this vehicle. However, it was long shunned, especially in its country of origin, Great Britain. The range of color variants is so wide (combinations, shades of body color, body and even marking color) that I have given up on keeping some of them. The inscription “Dinky service” exists on certain versions in white or black. (See the blog).

The classic “caramel and green”, on sale this week, is more interesting than it seems. There are three clear shades of body color. Here it is medium green with black markings. The gray and blue has a harmonious blue-violet body.

Connoisseurs will have noticed the third example on sale. This is “the” rare version. It shares the ivory and France blue hue of the second version of the Austin A105.

By chance of programming, we have the first variant of the A105 for sale which shares the purple blue of its side flames with the Commer described above. Aesthetically, it is successful.

You can also make the connection with the superb and rare Foden Mk2 blue-France and cream backsplash offered. The latter shares its colours with the Commer tow truck described just above. They of course correspond to a common manufacturing period.

made in italy
I like to associate in the programming models originating from the same country. There are links, sometimes subtle, between the manufacturers established there. I make the same associations in my windows and I notice that certain colors are the mark of a country.
Let’s take the two Edil Toys on sale.
modèle en vente cette semaine : Edil toys – Fiat 1500 6
The anthracite gray that dresses them is indicative of Italy in the early 60s. This shade is elegant, especially when accompanied by a red interior. Great art
modèle en vente cette semaine : Edil toys – Alfa Romeo Giulia Ti 4
Mercury and Politoys, other contemporary transalpine manufacturers, will also use this color. I dared to place between these two models the beautiful Lancia Aprilia from Mercury. In addition to their country of origin, the models have in common their rarity. I have a weakness for these early Mercurys.

They must be placed in the context of an Italy in full reconstruction. Having dared to propose miniatures of this size and quality, in a difficult context, is revealing of the optimism that reigns in the country. Associated on two programming lines, we find three Viberti tanks in the colors of three different oil companies, in zamac, from Mercury.

The line below includes two Politoys Alfa, Romeo, coupes, with a sporty look, in plastic, in red as well as a small Fiat 500 in zamac from Mercury, like an invitation to go to Rome or Milan.
The different reproduction scales are not a hindrance to the pleasure of bringing them together. The whole thing looks great.

My favorite for the Dinky Toys France programmed
My favorites at the scheduled Dinky Toys France, for their ability to associate with other products.
The quality of reproduction of these models and the illustrations of their box are a pleasure when preparing the programming grid.
They can be associated with practically all other productions without causing visual discomfort. Take the line scheduled on March 4th consisting in the center of the Alfa Romeo Giulia Ti with its beautiful illustrated box, framed by the two less aesthetic display boxes of the Panhard 24 ct and the Vauxhall Victor.

These two boxes, fragile, are rare.
The Vauxhall Victor, is not of a stunning beauty but it is rare. Liverpool experimented with a finishing process, quickly abandoned, consisting of applying a “chrome” strip on the edges of the glass surfaces.
This miniature deserves your attention.

It is the color blue and its nuances that connect the three Dinky Toys scheduled for Wednesday, March 5. The enthusiast can clearly see the difference between the turquoise Renault Dauphine and the “Bobigny blue”, both scheduled

The latter is a choice piece in a collection because of its exclusive side. It was never distributed in the commercial network. Not being intended to remain several seasons in the catalog, it was produced in reduced quantities compared to a classic color.
The blue Alfa Romeo 1900 that accompanies it is just as worthy of attention. There are a large number of variations of blue, up to turquoise. Some were even repainted at the factory on red bases. This happened quite often (Panhard Movic, Citroën 2cv, etc.). When Dinky Toys had to honor an order in a specific color and lacked a base, it did not hesitate to use bodies already painted in another shade to complete the order. This gives a very particular nuance. The model with its concave rims offered this week is late. Note that the model has a box bearing the reference 527, which succeeded the reference 24 J.
