…of Bent Danielsen, one of the first Danish collectors to cross the borders of his native country to distribute his Tekno miniatures in Europe, but also in the United States. He quickly understood the fascination that these products had on some miniature enthusiasts saturated with Dinky Toys and Corgi Toys. We were in the mid-seventies. A trigger for these trips was undoubtedly the presence in Brussels of his brother who worked at NATO. He took advantage of family visits to participate in events dedicated to old toys. He met many enthusiasts there who took him to Geneva, Turin, Washington… Better still, he brought along other Danish collectors, who took advantage of the opportunity and the craze for Scandinavian products such as Vilmer, Birk, Micro or Lego. They quickly formed a small, close-knit community. Bent had a perfect command of English, which made his task easier. Sociable and very friendly, he quickly became “the” Scandinavian figure to be reckoned with. With a Swedish friend, Hans Varneus, they published a magazine. At the swap meets, he always had a big suitcase and an attaché case for the rarest pieces. The models were wrapped in local newspaper. Later I understood his way of doing things. A few days before his trip, he would go around the second-hand shops in Copenhagen. He didn’t stock anything. When I saw the superb Dodge trucks on sale this week, I thought of him again.

These were the first models we bought from him. I remember very well being fascinated in 1978 by a black Dodge coal car with its beautiful yellow “Kul Koks” decals. My father had bought it from him. Much later I discovered that it was a great classic and that the rare version was in fact the green and black one with the “C.Wright & Co” colours. We have it for sale. It is a sublime product. We also have a “Milk & Cream” version intended for the Anglo-Saxon market. It is a late version, not very common. The metallic blue finish of the chassis gives the model a certain modernity.

There are many other variants. These products are difficult to find in this state of preservation. The USA has been a very important market for Tekno. During my travels I had noticed the many links between Scandinavia and the USA. Family names with Nordic consonances are common. The third Dodge for sale is also intended for the export market. The mentions on the doors and the body “Tekno miniature cars” leave no doubt. This series of Dodge, close to 1/50 in size, holds a special place in the Tekno history. It has nothing in common with the other two models described above except the name Dodge. The idea of ​​Tekno was to decline on a common base consisting of the cabin and the chassis, a series of different military equipment. There will also be two fire engines. The observer in you has surely made the connection with the series of military GMCs from FJ, which will appear 5 years later. With its rolling shutters, the body of the version proposed today will also inspire FJ (version “meats” and “workshop”). The idea is excellent, especially since the body allows to apply advertising, in particular on the back and sides. Tekno will not deprive itself of it.

You can assemble a series decorated with beautiful expressive advertisements. These versions are rare. The fourth Dodge Tekno in the program, with its red and green canvas tarpaulin is a success. The idea of ​​a tarpaulin version will never be taken up in Marseille. The manufacture of the canvas tarpaulin must have posed difficulties.

Gama will also offer a Ferrari Testa Rosa, also of French origin. We don’t know much more about the origin of these two models. Loan from Solido? Copy? What also raises questions is their longevity in the catalog. They can still be found on sale at the beginning of the seventies, in color harmonies contemporary to that period. The Fiat Abarth of the day confirms this state of affairs. The “toy” aspect is reinforced by the presence of the driver and the addition of garish advertisements. Given its German origins, Gama could not ignore the Volkswagen 1200. It is a 1958 version.
