I remember...
…from a scene that unfolded during the second day of the Allentown Antique Toy Fair in the United States last November.
A first in my life as a collector. Mid-morning, the organizer took the microphone. People stopped to listen. He explained that a collector had approached him to ask him to make his request over the microphone. He was desperately searching for a toy for his collection.
So the organizer asked if any of the vendors present had this toy… a few minutes later, two other collectors, finding the idea innovative and brilliant, also came to make their request over the microphone.
At that moment, I was worried about what was going to happen to the event… Especially since, a minute later, the organizer, in the triumphant tone so often used by reality TV hosts, returned to the microphone to announce that the first request had been granted!
I then asked myself the following question: What could I possibly ask for?
I realized that the list was so long that I would have been completely unable to name a single model off the top of my head.
I’m thinking about this anecdote again because we’re approaching the holiday season and it’s time to send our Christmas wishes to Santa.
Not easy, is it?
So, for this last week of programming for the year, we’ve put together a great selection.
First, a few Unic trucks from JRD. The years go by, and my passion for this company hasn’t waned. I appreciate JRD’s unique spirit of inventiveness. With its single “Lautaret” cab, the Montreuil-based company has managed to create a panel van with a trailer, a liquid transporter, and a short-wheelbase tractor pulling two wagons. We have these three beautiful models on the menu.

These are truly beautiful toys that must have delighted many a child on Christmas Eve under the tree.
These creations are certainly improbable, but one can’t help but be charmed. Their luxurious finish is a real plus.
I never tire of rereading the names of the cities inscribed on the walls of the “international transport” van.

An invitation to travel and dream.
Speaking of quality, I’m obviously thinking of Tekno. We have a fine selection. Four Ford Taunus vans are on display. We can also commend the clever three-part design of this model, which allows for superb, sharply defined tricolor finishes. The separate headlights and grille complete the look. It’s very attractive. Prices have dropped considerably and should encourage enthusiasts to collect as many versions as possible. And what a display it is!

We also have a magnificent Volvo car transporter semi-trailer. I appreciate its bright color, although it’s not very realistic.
Seeing this set, one can’t help but think of the version produced by Liverpool. Tekno seems to have been loosely inspired by it. I confess I don’t know the story, but it’s hard to imagine that Tekno plagiarized this trailer without incurring Liverpool’s wrath.
Was there a commercial agreement between the two companies? We also have, by chance, the first and rare color variant of this beautiful Dinky Toys set. I also find that the proportions of the Bedford “O” cab suit this trailer even better than those of the Volvo cab.
I appreciate the solid, deep blue color and the platforms highlighted in putty.

Let’s stay in Liverpool, with another splendid truck, one that has always been somewhat overlooked by enthusiasts. I’m talking about the Leyland Comet. We have its first and rare color variation: green cab, red sideboards (later orange), and cream-colored wheels.
As an aside, wheels painted this color are always found on older and often much rarer versions.
One last, but important, detail: we have the first-type gearbox, a perfect match for this beautiful version.

peaceful family sedans for a beautiful Christmas
We began this week’s presentation with a look at utility vehicles.
If you prefer replicas of sedate family sedans, you’re in for a treat this Christmas. Miniature replicas of Fiat sedans can be a theme in themselves, and occupy a lifetime. A major European manufacturer, Fiat has not only exported its cars worldwide, but also, when necessary, relocated its production to comply with the specific tax regulations of each country. This guarantees collectors the chance to travel the globe and find Fiat replicas in every corner of the world.
This week, we have a beautiful Fiat 1600 from Buby, an Argentinian manufacturer.
modèle en vente cette semaine : Buby – Fiat 1600 – 1028
The miniature is meticulously crafted, like all Buby toys. It’s easy to see why its creator is of German origin. The toy’s quality is easily on par with the best European productions.

This week, we have two splendid Edil Toys models to compare.
In the 1960s, Italy produced no more meticulously crafted miniatures. Edil sedans are all very difficult to find, much more so than the sports cars, which were often the preferred choice for buyers. People dream more about a Lamborghini Miura or a Ferrari 275GTB than a Fiat 1500. Times have changed, and tastes have evolved. You appreciate the anthracite gray color, which suits this elegant Turin sedan perfectly. The model shares this color with the Alfa Romeo Giulia, also from Edil Toys and also featured in our lineup. In my opinion, it’s the best reproduction of this car.

Let’s stick with sedans, with a more modern Fiat, the 125, splendid in its orange livery. In the 70s, this orange color was fashionable, and today, in this shade, it’s a Mercury that energizes a shop window. I appreciate these somewhat exuberant colors that belong to the toy industry. This 125 has always been difficult to find. I guarantee that searching for the different color variations promises some surprises.
The Norev Fiat 124, also planned, is sprightly in its turquoise green. In the 60s and 70s, the Villeurbanne-based company produced a very large number of Fiat models. We can conclude that this type of popular car corresponded to the profile of its buyers. This 124 is difficult to find.
We also have a beautiful Simca 1000, also from Norev, which further illustrates the previous points about the connection between Norev and more modest cars. I appreciate its “luxury” finish with its whitewall tires. It logically comes with its first type of box which has a black plastic base.

In the 1960s, Volvo sedans were a status symbol. They identified a driver who cared about his family. Volvo emphasized the passive safety of its vehicles, and therefore of their occupants, reinforcing the image of the responsible family man. This is the idea that comes to mind when I see the Tekno 144 and 164 models on the program.

Volvos from this period are also associated with an image of quality and robustness, much like the Tekno models. These Volvos seemed to be the quintessential family car, but not affordable for everyone.
dashing prototypes
A few weeks ago, we saw how the unexpected success of the Ghia Chrysler concept car from Corgi Toys led other model car manufacturers to take an interest in this type of vehicle.
This responded to a new demand: model car buyers in the early 1960s wanted to dream. Since cars had become almost accessible to everyone, popular sedans were losing their appeal and no longer inspired dreams… Buyers preferred to imagine themselves behind the wheel of these stylish prototypes. All toy manufacturers therefore sought inspiration from coachbuilders and their concept cars.
In this field, Italy has always been the center of the world. With Italian manufacturers based there, they had a special relationship with these coachbuilders.
This is evident when looking at the Politoys catalog. This Alfa Romeo 2600SZ offered this week features a special body by Zagato. It defined an era. One cannot remain unmoved by this sleek model.

More conventional, but no less beautiful, is the Alfa Romeo Giulia GT sports car from Mercury. This car enjoyed a successful racing career, doing much for the brand’s image in the mid-sixties. The red color suits the model well. If you really prefer city cars, then Mercury also offers the timeless Fiat 500L. I appreciate its period-appropriate orange color, like the Fiat 125 described earlier. It’s hard to find in this shade.

Christmas in the 80s
I finally remember the articles Jean-Marc Teissedre wrote for Auto Hebdo a few weeks before Christmas in the 80s. You could tell that time of year was very special. There was often a double-page color spread, and the article itself stretched over several pages. I loved that.
You could tell the artisans had been preparing well in advance, to offer enthusiasts their finest models. Contemplating the double-page spread, time seemed to stand still. You held your breath, and I remember often staring wide-eyed at the photos. Would there be enough for everyone?
In the model-making world, this question has always been central… and it’s still true today! Nothing has changed in that respect!
Jean-Marc tried to be as eclectic as possible to satisfy all enthusiasts. This week we have a beautiful collection of popular cars designed by artisans for collectors.
These models have generally been overlooked by industrial manufacturers. I like popular cars, Ford, Fiat, Volkswagen, Opel, or Renault sedans.
These miniatures are my favorites. A Porsche or a Ferrari is certainly very beautiful, but I feel more emotion looking at a display case featuring a reproduction of an Opel or Fiat sedan!
Do you love the 1958 Opel Rekord Tekno? Me too! Available in single-color, two-tone, and promotional versions. AutoJaune Collection
The Opel Olympia from Walldorf is very interesting.

It’s a high-quality white metal kit with added parts. It fills a gap in the market. This kit from the late 80s never actually went on sale. Even back then, its price in DM limited its distribution.
The Panhard Dyna X models, on the other hand, are full of charm.

Since then, better models have been made in China, but in my opinion, these models possess the charm of French white metal craftsmanship.
The 4CV convertible and the Juva coupé from Automany are resin transkits that were adapted, the former to the very beautiful Heller kit, the latter to the Eligor Juva.
The modeler retained the chassis and interior of the original models. I remember how much Jean-Marc praised the low price of this type of product, an important criterion for him.

Finally, one last model caught my eye, as I remember seeing a few examples of this Renault 5 Le Car version from Heuliez on the streets of Paris. The kit isn’t of the highest quality, but this car is so unique that it deserves to be displayed in your showcases.

the three lucky Christmases
A final word on the three lucky people who will be able to put under the Christmas tree the latest creation of our friend Geoff Goodson: the tank trailer designed from the original Meccano plans hitching the Berliet GBO.
If Dinky Toys had gone all the way, this is what you could have hitched to the Berliet. Extraordinary work.
I never imagined I’d be able to see this one day. Just imagine the work involved.
Three trailers will now join other collections, while Geoff keeps the prototype.
You’ll undoubtedly appreciate the box with the printed plan.
Our friend is already working on another project, which I’ll be sure to keep you informed about.

I wish you happy holidays and see you next year.
Midway through this new year, I will be retiring, but know that I will continue to frequent swap meets; it’s called passion.
The AutoJaune Collection and AutoJaune Junior websites will, of course, continue their respective activities.
