That was his primary focus when it came to collecting miniatures. In fact, my father and I even traveled across the Channel with the goal of tracking down different color variants of models like the Foden and the Guy. I thought of him when I came across a Massey Ferguson 1035 made by Milton, an Indian toy manufacturer. During his time stationed in India, he had cleverly held onto several examples of these models—which were also sold through the Indian Massey Ferguson dealer network—and I ended up buying a few from him. He quickly grasped the significance and rarity of these items, and their market value soon soared. The piece is superb. There is also a plastic version that came in a gold-colored box; Erik let me have a few of those as well. I have a soft spot for agricultural machinery, and I even made an exception to my usual collecting habits by acquiring a few models in larger scales—1/20 and even 1/15. After all, every rule needs an exception! We also have a Fordson model by Charbons—a lovely piece, and quite rare, especially in such a well-preserved state. The figure is often missing. Since these toys were produced using whatever resources were at hand, the paint quality isn't particularly high, and because they were sold in general variety stores, they were never intended to be kept as collectibles. Finding an original example in this condition is a real feat.
