The last one scheduled each year, often in December, is the largest. As everywhere, you need a bit of luck to be in the right place at the right time.<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>That day, I was drawn to the presence of an elderly couple whose faces were unfamiliar to me.<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>The natural curiosity of a collector led me to their table. On the floor was a flat cardboard box containing Daf trucks from Lion Car, still in their boxes.<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>Nothing unusual in the Netherlands, the country of origin of Lion Car.<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>As I stared at the box, the gentleman called me over to explain that the models had a unique feature: they were all painted in the colors of the same company. His wife added an explanation: it was their company\u2026 Remia, a Dutch margarine brand.<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>They had come to the event to sell off their stock of miniatures kept in their display cases, as well as advertisements, calendars, and other promotional items in Remia&#8217;s colors.<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>I was the first one there, and I took the box of miniatures containing trucks and cars in their colors.<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>The box summarized the story of the connection between Remia and Lion Car. This series was produced for advertising purposes; these were not for sale.<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>To be more precise, these models were promotional items. Consumers collected points, here on margarine wrappers, but it could also be on chocolate bar wrappers, cheese wrappers, film wrappers, newspaper subscriptions, and so on.<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>The items were then sent, often in exchange for a contribution towards postage costs.<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>This reward system was very successful in the 1960s. This particular model is coupled to a silver trailer. The grille design is different.<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>This 2600, dating from the very early 1960s, revolutionized the design of European truck cabs. It&#8217;s modern; looking at it, it&#8217;s hard to imagine it dates from that era. Its silhouette is familiar.<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>Its large windshield is a real improvement in driver comfort. There&#8217;s no doubt it was created for this Danish company.<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>My friend Geoff Goodson suggests that, for this purpose, it was distributed in a plain white box without any markings.<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>Presumably with the company&#8217;s agreement, the surplus was distributed in a Tekno display case. Note that there&#8217;s also a Volvo N88 in these colors. It&#8217;s a beautiful, rather late-production model.<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>Staying with Tekno, we have a rare Scania 110 Shell semi-trailer. This model is from the end of its production run, and I believe it was only distributed in the Netherlands.<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>The two examples I found come from there. This model is very common with a Volvo N88. The stenciled red paint on the front fenders is particularly noteworthy. For this project, Tekno modified the mold of its Volvo flatbed truck and added a backrest, allowing for a decal with the company name. The color scheme, bright orange and red, is stunning.
