I remember...
…the encouragement I received from clients and collectors when I announced, about two years ago now, that I was moving and would have to pack up my collection.
They associated it with the idea of a long and arduous task.
I must admit, I take a certain pleasure in picking up the models and putting them back in their boxes. Inevitably, they would ask, “So, how many do you have?” It’s a recurring question from many enthusiasts, ever since we started our collection. It makes me smile.
For many collectors, the value of a collection is measured by the number of models it contains. It seems to me that this is a narrow view of collecting. Recently, I received photos of an Italian collector’s collection. I couldn’t help but smile with admiration: we weren’t talking about quantity, barely three hundred models, but about quality.
The person had amassed the best colors and variations from several Italian manufacturers. It wasn’t everything, far from it, but only beautiful pieces, tastefully arranged. I made sure to congratulate him. But how could one possibly claim to have everything? First, you’d have to know everything that was produced, which is impossible. Besides, where do you draw the line when it comes to variations?
Mr. Gougeon has pushed the boundaries of Dinky Toys France. He can easily quantify his collection. It’s a way of collecting that I would describe as philatelic. He finds pleasure in trying to gather as many variations as possible within a limited framework, in this case, Dinky Toys France.
Personally, I like the idea of infinity.
As a child, at school, I remember being unsettled when the teacher explained to us, at the time of the space race, that we were just a grain of dust lost in the universe. I remember his amused yet reassuring tone. The guiding principle behind my collection of miniature cars is to trace the history of miniature car manufacturing from its origins, from industrial production through promotional models and handcrafted pieces…
I do encounter limitations: financial, spatial, temporal…like everyone else. This notion of the infinite variety of production is evident in the models for sale this week.
The selection delighted me. For example, we have an original and majestic Albion tanker truck from Jimson. This unique vehicle is designed for transporting bulk flour. Majestic, it is reproduced at approximately 1/42 scale. I have a soft spot for this product, inspired by the one produced by Budgie, which is reproduced at approximately 1/60 scale, therefore quite small.
I appreciate this type of toy, now rehabilitated among enthusiasts. Thirty years ago, few of us were particularly impressed by this type of product.
Its vibrant livery is a bonus.

Let’s stay within the British market with this beautiful Morris station wagon, made of vinyl and reproduced in 1/24 scale by Tudor Rose.
I like to occasionally venture off the beaten path and acquire a miniature reproduced at a larger or smaller scale than 1/43.
So, a beautiful 1/24 or 1/87 scale miniature might be among my acquisitions. It’s a matter of personal taste.
This Morris is beautifully crafted, and I appreciate its unusual canary yellow color.

Let’s stay in Great Britain with this rare Caterpillar D9 from Spot On.
What a magnificent piece! The machine, imposing in reality, is reproduced at 1/42 scale. It’s worth noting that many construction vehicles are reproduced at scales ranging from 1/50 to 1/60.
In a Spot On collection, this machine is a benchmark. It has always been rare.

Let’s stick with construction equipment.
This week we have a Dinky Toys Euclid truck that deserves some discussion.
I’ve created nine variations of this truck, which, in the English Dinky Toys line, is our Berliet GLR tipper truck…it remained in the catalog for a very long time, and therefore saw many variations: glazing, crank type (with or without a thumb), wheel mounting (convex or reverse-mounted), wheel color (yellow, khaki green, or red), and finally, decoration.
Towards the end of its production run, it even changed its name to Terex.
The one offered here is from the very beginning of its history. It lacks glazing and, more importantly, features black decoration on the front corner of the tipper bed. The logo would later evolve, and the colors red and white would appear.

Finally, to place alongside the Caterpillar, we also have a Blaw Knox bulldozer produced in Liverpool by Dinky Toys.
Collectors have long neglected this type of vehicle. I realized this a long time ago. I discovered, after visiting Great Britain, that finding one in excellent condition, with working tracks and a beautiful original gray box, contemporary with the Foden Mk1, was far from easy.
I remember deciding to check the condition of all these construction-related models in my collection in order to replace any less attractive models or boxes I owned. I don’t regret doing so.
I recently enjoyed putting them in their boxes.

Anticipating trends
Tastes change with age.
We use our experience to appreciate models differently, models that, thirty years earlier, were commonplace and didn’t evoke any particular emotion in us.
We had somewhat neglected them; they weren’t around at the right time. Throughout my forty-year professional career, I listened to my clients. This allowed me, among other things, to see emerging trends and better anticipate them.
I thought about this when I saw the Volvo F89 and the promotional Ford D800 for Irma Kaffe from Tekno Denmark. I remember a small batch that was for sale in Copenhagen in the 1990s.
The market seemed saturated.
Yet, this model has a unique story. It was produced for Irma and distributed exclusively in this Danish grocery chain. Tekno specially designed an ingenious plastic cover system that slides and lifts up. About twenty years ago, a prototype based on a Volvo N88, with a van body painted in Irma’s colors, resurfaced on the market. (See the blog “A Second Life…with photos”)
This model proves that Irma had been in contact with Tekno for some time to commission the production of the Ford D800.

It was the arrival of a new owner at Tekno in the late 1960s that seems to have unlocked the agreement.
The development and production of the Ford D800 Irma must have been expensive. A specific gearbox was even created.
We have a superb example for sale. The other late Tekno is even rarer in my opinion.
It’s a Volvo F89 “Nord,” a subsidiary of the famous Swedish transport company ASG.

I confess that it was actually its discovery nearly thirty years ago that opened my eyes to the Volvo F88/89 series, which I had somewhat neglected.
I remember, as with the bulldozer described earlier, checking my display cases and then looking to complete my collection. It is indeed a Danish Tekno. I’ve seen three other examples.
I don’t know its production history. It’s certainly a late model, given the use of plasticized decals. Perhaps 1972. It’s superb, and its color scheme is original.
We also have a fine selection of other interesting models from Tekno on the program this week.
Be sure to appreciate the Volvo N88 Titan with its canvas cover and no advertising. Primarily intended for export, it doesn’t come up for sale very often.

change of theme
I also smiled when I saw the empty boxes of Politoys from the export series offered for sale this week.
Forty years ago the first zamac Politoys were difficult to sell. Only a few models like the Fiat 500 planter and the Alfa Romeo 2600SZ sold easily.
The plastic series models or the export series models were intended to remain on display and await a lover of Italian models.
The years have passed, demand has evolved and now, in 2026, we are offering empty boxes from the Export series.
I find this phenomenon interesting and delightful.

Themes change.
As proof, a few years ago I acquired a large batch of Politoys. My collection only included the plastic range. There was one of each type, brand new in their boxes. I seized the opportunity and kept the whole set.
They represent an era and hold a special place in the history of miniature car manufacturing.
And besides, you have to admit that the product’s presentation, with the garage setting and gas pumps, is full of charm.
The design evokes Italy in the 1960s.
The good life. The models are easy to find without their boxes. But not the other way around! The boxes are very often missing.
For those who only want complete models, we also have three original products, including an intriguing Japanese Samurai.

As a child, this name intrigued me, and let’s face it, even disturbed me. I must say, I had become acquainted with the Michel Vaillant comic strip. There was “The Honor of the Samurai” and “The Phantom of the 24 Hours,” an episode in which the Asian Leader racing team wasn’t exactly portrayed in a flattering light.
It took me a while to shake off this negative image of Asian products. I quickly distanced myself from this comic strip, for which, I admit, I have no great affinity.

My favorites are these three beautiful JRD
Three Citroëns.
As with the Politoys models described above, the boxes are rare. Fragile, they don’t age well. A long time ago, I took stock of the boxes I was missing from my collection.
Even as a professional model maker, I had a lot of trouble completing my models without boxes.
So, I’ve learned to appreciate JRD boxes since then.
I find them charming.
The three models offered are interesting and rarely come up for sale, especially in this condition.

I appreciate the anthracite color of the Traction Avant, the presence of the trunk borrowed from the 2CV, and the harmonious color scheme of the Esso advertisement for the 1200 kg truck.
