I remember...
…that my father and I have often been approached by authors while they were preparing their publications.
The fact that our collection covers a wide spectrum of miniature car production is the main reason for these requests.
Moreover, we have always been keen to share the joy of collecting with others and to assist fellow enthusiasts in their research. I value this spirit of sharing, as it helps advance our collective knowledge.
I always greatly enjoy sharing ideas and conversing with Robert Newson or Patrick Trench whenever I am in Great Britain.
I love watching the look in their eyes when they pull new finds from their pockets. I sense that the pleasure lies as much in sharing the discovery as in actually owning the item. Yet, such encounters are becoming rare. It seems to me that nowadays—particularly with social media—the focus has shifted to self-promotion; the ego has taken precedence over the object itself. I remember a time when we took pleasure in discovering an unknown model through a photograph or a publication, without a trace of jealousy or the urge to disparage the lucky owner.
I reflected on this when I saw the three books currently on sale—books for which we provided photographs and information. I truly enjoyed working with Mick Duprat (*Les jouets Renault*) and Dominique Pascal (*Dinky Toys*).

I appreciated their modest approach, which focused on listening and asking the right questions.
Both projects were coherent and original. There had previously been no book covering the subject of Renault toys.
Mick Duprat was initially particularly interested in sheet-metal Renault toys. Consequently, he also visited my father to cover the Zamak die-cast models. He created a beautiful book featuring—as is always the case with his work—stunning photography that inspires a desire to collect.
Dominique Pascal took a different, original approach. Aiming to appeal to a broad audience, he wanted to juxtapose Dinky Toys with the actual vehicles they represented.
The result is a high-quality book for the general public, serving as an excellent introduction for those nostalgic for Dinky Toys. Here, too, the photography is excellent, and the excerpts from automotive catalogs are well-chosen.
The book by Thierry Redempt and Claude Wagner, dedicated exclusively to the “24” series, falls into a different category; it is aimed at enthusiasts specifically looking for model variations.
The book has a pleasant format. The choice to use large, cut-out images of the models is one I do not personally share. Claude Wagner brought his analytical rigor to the project with Thierry Redempt, resulting in an enjoyable book.
Too much, perhaps?
Dinky Toys France has inspired many authors. Perhaps too many?
We are still waiting for the equivalent regarding the Liverpool output… which is much harder to cover. I remain fascinated by the diversity of the British production.
The only solution would be a book created through the collaboration of several enthusiasts, each specializing in their own field—figures, planes, trains, accessories, miniatures, pre-war and post-war models—since the production span covers nearly fifty years.
I recommend Dr. Force’s book to fans of British Dinky Toys; it is the easiest to find and also the most affordable. The photos and the catalog listings are excellent.
I would love to see a similar book on the Milan-based brand Politoys.
Here again, the list compiled by Dr. Force in *Made in Italy* is high-quality and helpful to collectors. It serves as a solid foundation. I have always appreciated this Italian brand and its early injection-molded plastic products.
Recently, a trend has emerged in Italy. Enthusiasts are seeking out different color and mold variations—much like with Dinky Toys—and it is always gratifying to see this kind of phenomenon. It creates a real sense of momentum.
In fact, for the models I enjoy—such as Fiat or Lancia sedans or the Dauphine—I’ve found myself hunting for the various color versions. Generally, this kind of trend eventually leads to a book being published; it’s a recurring pattern.
I would really appreciate a book on the brand—one that explains the variations and the history of the models.
This week, for instance, we have a rare orange Innocenti A40. It’s only the second one I’ve ever seen; I kept the first one for myself!

Also on the program, three Alfa Romeos, full of charm. The two Giuliettas, the Sprint and the convertible are certainly reproduced in an approximate manner.
These are toys that children of the time must have dreamed of owning. We must know how to place them in their context, that of an Italy which is recovering in the post-war period. Know how to appreciate the presence of infrequent boxes.
It’s a real plus. For fans, know that Politoys has changed the design of all its cardboard boxes.
There are often two or more types of illustrations.

The Alfa Romeo 2600 and the Bianchina Panorama feature more sophisticated designs (with opening parts) and more faithful execution. They are rare. By the time they were released, the Milanese firm was preparing to switch to Zamac injection molding.

Finally, there are race cars, too. For enthusiasts, it is worth noting that the Jaguar D-Type on offer comes in metallic green rather than the classic green—a rare variant. I appreciate the charmingly naive quality of the single-seater range; they bear little resemblance to the actual models they are meant to replicate. Yet, the collection exudes a certain charm—that of a bygone era. And seeing virtually unknown cars like a De Sanctis or a Haas on display is a real treat for an enthusiast like me.

the first Tekno book
I remember the first Tekno book very well.
I knew the authors and the book’s publication date; it coincided with the collectors’ fair they were organizing in Copenhagen at the time. It was in black and white. What discoveries I made!
I remember that much later, when they sold me pieces from their collection, they made the transaction conditional on being allowed to come to my father’s place to photograph the models in our collection—it was the only time anyone ever made me such an offer. They spent two days in Compiègne, and later, the first color book was published.
As a thank-you, they gave us 50 copies!
I thought of that when I saw the beautiful Tekno models up for sale. It is hard not to be captivated by the Volkswagen Kombi Buko Ost.

Whenever I have this type of product for sale, I always pause for a moment of reflection.
The magic never fails to work, and I find myself thinking that this particular series of Volkswagen Kombis represents the pinnacle of promotional vans. Its livery is truly delightful. The model is fragile, and finding one in such excellent condition is a rarity.
The Volvo N88 Titan semi-trailer—featuring the inverted color scheme (dark green cab rather than light green)—seldom comes up for sale. It is a magnificent piece.

I could say the same for the “Kob Kaffen” version with the canvas cover. The canvas-topped variants of this beautiful truck are a success. I appreciate the balance between the cab and the covered cargo bed. This body style is surely the one that suits it best.

It took me some time to appreciate the Scania CR76 bus.
Now, I appreciate its many variations.
The driver figure, complete with his cap, is a nice touch.
This week, we have two interesting versions—hard to come by, as they were exclusive to two export markets: the Deutsche Bundespost (Germany) and SJ (the Swedish railway company). On display, they make a fine companion to the Volvo coaches released earlier.

modèle en vente cette semaine : Tekno – Scania CR76 bus Deutsche Budespost 851
My top pick among the two scheduled modelisme models.
I particularly appreciate their history.
Here, too, they must be viewed within their historical context.
When they were released in the early 1970s, not every potential customer could get one.
You had to be in Mr. Greilsamer’s good books to hope to acquire one. These models, designed by Mr. Dubray, have aged remarkably well.
Better things have certainly been produced since, yet I wouldn’t trade them for modern models for anything in the world.
They were crafted by an artisan using his own resources, and at the time, the product was unrivaled. In this artisanal craftsmanship, I sense the human element of a job well done—a far cry from today’s products, where machines handle so much of the mold design and the human role is increasingly diminished.
A book on this subject would certainly be welcome. It is also worth noting that Mr. Dubray modified his tooling several times during the production of these Bugattis.
